Bunmi Akinsola Sickle Cell Initiative (BASC Initiative)

BASC Initiative is a not-for-profit organisation based in Ibadan, Nigeria, founded in memory of Bunmi Akinsola. It supports people living with sickle cell disease by helping them manage crises, afford medication, and work toward a permanent cure. The organisation runs programmes including genotype education in schools, blood donation drives, World Sickle Cell Day events, and a volunteer advocacy programme. It also partners with government bodies, hospitals and NGOs to widen access to care. Through outreach and education, it aims to reduce sickle cell deaths and raise awareness about genotype compatibility across Nigeria and Africa.
