Hem Weald

Hem Weald is a small studio specialising in hand-painted signs for buildings and spaces. Each piece begins as a pencil and ink drawing before moving to the surface, where paint is applied in careful layers and lettering is brushed by hand. The studio uses oil-based enamels and acrylics on timber, metal, and plaster, along with natural-hair brushes and gold leaf detailing, choosing primers and varnishes for durability against weathering. Work is unhurried, with attention paid to legibility, proportion, and colour that holds over time. The studio itself features north light, long workbenches, and drying racks, reflecting a slow, considered approach to traditional sign painting.
