KIRA

KIRA is a mechanical aluminum walking aid designed for blind and visually impaired people, built around a sweeping-motion technique rather than the usual lift-and-tap method. A cushioned, 360°-swiveling central wheel stays in contact with the ground, sensing variations in terrain uphill and downhill, while two side wheels help follow walls, railings and steps. This reduces strain on the forearm and creates a smoother, more continuous gait with less abrupt stopping. The product is covered by a registered patent and is offered in different lengths depending on the user's height. The site explains how the device works and provides sizing guidance for prospective users.
